...The Vanoise National Park
Established in 1963, the Vanoise National Park is France’s first national park. It abuts the Italian border and the Gran Paradiso National Park of Italy, with which it has been twinned since 1972. Together, the two parks cover an area of 1,250 km² making this the largest protected area in western Europe. A whole range of different walking activities is available : marked paths, nature trails, theme hikes … Take your time to observe the tremendous variety of fauna and flora, many of which are protected species. Nature-lovers, amateur walkers or experienced hikers will all find an itinerary adapted to their level. Hundreds of indexed walks and hikes radiate from the resort in all directions across the outstanding landscape of the Tarentaise Alps : through meadows and forests, pastures and glaciers, with summits culminating at 4,000 m in the heart of this nature reserve.
